A version painted in 1875—77, reproducing the left-hand part of the Moscow picture, is now at the Tate Gallery in London.

The same interior is depicted in a canvas of 1873, Three Dancers, now in a private collection in Paris; the pose of the dancer on the extreme left is similar to that of the dancer in the Moscow picture. A pencil drawing for this picture (present location unknown) was published in The Burlington Magazine. Pick-vance dates the Pushkin Museum piece to 1874. Provenance: The G. From the 1860s on Degas frequently painted horse-racing scenes. There is another pastel similar to that of The Pushkin Museum (see Lemoisne 1946—49, No 597 bis).

Pastel on paper. 65 X 65 cm. Inv. No 3273 The picture may be dated approximately 1898 (Le-moisne dates it 1897). An earlier work on the same theme, painted in oils around 1890 (in the Musee de I'lmpressionnisme in Paris), is similar to the Pushkin Museum pastel in its use of color.
